View Full Version : FX4 wheel swap

My 01 F250 has the stock 16" steel rims with 235 85 R16

My new 06 has the 17" wheels that come with the FX4; 265 70 R17

overall mounted diameter is about the same at around 31"

any problem swapping wheels between these trucks?

I like the narrower OEM type tires (quieter, better in snow, cheaper)

The 17's are very deep dish with the mounting plane near the outside.

Any other difference in the track width or steering clearances between stock and FX4?

Do they both have the same number of lugs and the same bolt pattern?

They will mount up. The bolt pattern (8x170mm) is the same on both wheels. That bolt pattern was used from 99-Current model years. However, in 2005 with the change to coil over suspension, the axle was widened and subsequently the offset on the wheels changed. You will note an approximate 2 inch difference between the two offsets. You could

1) Run the wheels as they are. Your footprint will narrow by 4 inches.
B) Buy quality 2 inch spacers.
3rd) Swap the axles from an 05-07 truck. Its less work than you might think ;)
