View Full Version : Exhaust Question

May 17th, 2013, 09:56 PM
I have a 99 F250Sd with the V10. The stock exhaust lacks the note I enjoy from a larger size engine so here's my question. If I take my truck and have the stock exhaust system cut off and have straight pipes welded in their place (true duals) with no cats or anything else but glass packs and echo chambers, would it possibly harm my engine? I know I have to have a specific amount of back pressure so I'm looking for all the info I can get before I go to cut into it.

Leave the cats alone, cut the muffler out and replace it with something else - glasspack, straight pipe, whatever.

Do i really need the cats? I've never had a vehicle with them on it as I've always gone from exhaust manifold straight back with straight pipe but I've never had anything new enough to worry about

without the Cats the computer may get fooled

I have heard the sound of straight pipes behind the Cats and its quite loud, could be just what your looking for and if it's too loud you can always stick a glass pak in there

No cats mean the O2 sensors will not read right which can lead to a lot of expensive problems down the road. You can search youtube for sound clips to get an idea of sound. IMO, the V10 sounds a lot like an angry V6.

they do sell O2 sensor eliminators, but I have read about problems using them

Whether you live in an area with emission testing or not, it is illegal to remove the cats anyway.

If you live in the U.S. it's illegal to remove cats. That said, the secondary 02 won't impact engine performance or reliability. I would leave the cats though, V10s sounds like a v6 on steroids, so why enhance that sound?

I am currently running gutted cats, 44 series flowmaster with 3" pipe. I have 02 sensors but can get a custom tune and do away with them totally. My truck now is almost obnoxiously loud. Keep ur cats and run a good muffler like a flowmaster. Glass packs rust out really quick in my opinion

Is this what you are looking for?

Ford V10 Muffler Delete - YouTube

Straight 3" pipe from the cat back.

There should be more sound clips on Youtube for V10's with various catback systems.
