Hi Everyone
I found this forum while researching an issue I have with a 1992 F150 5.0 RWD. It idles high and rough at times, gas mileage is crap. I have diagnosed one of the major issues to be Intake plenum gasket is bad and allowing too much air into the plenum. I have ordered an upper and lower intake gasket set and plan on doing the replacement myself. I have a couple of questions.

1. Should I replace both upper and lower intake gasket or just the i
upper? I'm thinking both since I will already have it torn down.

2. Where can I find bolt tightening sequence and torque information for this.

If I should start a different thread, or if there is an existing thread that I could reference, just let me know.

If you are tearing it down anyway, I'd replace upper and lower. For torque specs, get a shop manual, one of these should work:,10335

Just wanted to post an update on my issues.

I replaced the intake gaskets and this improved things but I still had an idling problem I replaced the IAC valve and it was a bit better but still idled inconsistently and shifted rough. Then a new issue began, it began stalling and lurching (hard shift) when I put it into reverse. Eventually it started to stall when stopping at a red light or a stop sign. The stalling at stop only seemed to occur if I had to brake a bit hard. So I began taking my foot off the gas pedal well before an intersection with a traffic light or stop sign and the problem didn't occur as often. Along with the idling and stalling, it would shift hard and early when going into 2nd gear. I also had a check engine light on all the time. I did some research and decided to replace the TPS. The truck now starts and idles perfectly, doesn't die in reverse, and it no longer shifts hard when hitting 2nd gear. Also the check engine light no longer comes on.

In the future, if the check engine light comes on, read out the codes. That will eliminate a lot of guesswork.
