my 6.0L thread...

well, ive put almost 10,000 miles on the truck since i bought it back in june. after closely monitoring my scangauge, about halfway through my trip to texas and back my oil cooler started to clog up. a clogged oil cooler is the #1 reason for blown egr coolers.

anyways, i got new OEM oil cooler and o-ring kit on order, shipped 265 bucks, the stealership wants $480.

also on my parts order is the blue spring upgrade which raises the fuel pressure 10 psi to help with injector life and a little better throttle response. sinister disel coolant filter kit. HPOP screen. i will probably order an EGR delete kit on payday along with a bypass oil filter kit.

also on the list is ARP headstuds. and other components to do the headbolts/gaskets. i will have a shop tackle about half if not most of this...

as much as i like to do stuff myself, i just dont have the time because of the boat project and work. my deadline is to have the boat in the water by july 1st: opening day of scallop season...

Very nice man. That's a great list of parts to throw on a 6.0
Just be glad you saw the oil cooler issue now

yeah i decided to go ahead and do everything sooner and keep repair cost down rather than later and end up with a blown head and egr.

i planned on doing everything this year anyways, doesnt hurt to do it sooner. helps when ive had a rainy day fund sey aside to pay for the labor side of things. just gotta stockpile parts!

Sinister has some really cool stuff. What's their filter mount look like? Just like blue-ish piece there?

ASwaff400 February 19th, 2013 03:07 PM

dropped the truck off this morning to have the work done, so far the list is:
coolant flush
change oil cooler
weld the egr cooler shut
pull turbo, clean all components
replace the boots(maybe i forget)
change t-stat
install coolant filter
refill coolant with CAT EC-1 coolant
change serpentine belt
refill oil with full synthetic plus a bottle of rev-x

he's gonna let me know if anything else needs attention or replacing when he digs into it

i also asked him to take pics of the process so i can post the pics and info, he said he had no problem doing this...

also once i get the truck back she's getting new batteries. and MAYBE 2.5 inch level kit and f350 rear blocks(4inch)

Russo2 February 19th, 2013 04:43 PM

Nice. Rev-x is good stuff, but dang is it expensive.

ASwaff400 February 19th, 2013 05:13 PM

its actually fairly cheap considering all the other components for the diesel is pretty pricey
