1988 F150 thread

I can't call this a "rebuild or build thread" as I'm not building the truck so I figure "thread" will suffice:grinz:.

This is my 1988 F150 Supercab XLT Lariat, 5.0L EFI, AOD, 2wd, 8.8 with 3.55 gears, supposed to have 25k original miles. I drove this 90 miles home the day before yesterday AFTER hitting up a pawn shop which is ran by some friends we hadn't seen in a long time. Off topic, I got a Craftsman18v Circular saw, Drill, Flashlight and Case for $65, a Dewalt 14.4v Hammer Drill and circular saw with battery and charger for $55, a Dewalt Electric Impact for $30, and a pair of Klein needlenose pliers for free..

I've been driving this thing for now instead of the Bronco, it's starting the gnarling noise when starting now and the oil pan is leaking and the rearend needs fluid, we're gonna take it to a local shop to have the oil pan fixed and the rearend drained and refilled.

When they change the fluid ask them if it's open or LS, with the cover off, it's obvious.

You know what this thread needs? PICTURES

Yeah I'm working on the pics, I was talking about the rearend in the Bronco which is a 9" so there is no diff cover. As far as it goes, I can do the 8.8 myself but that 9" is something I can't do on gravel or when it is windy..

Booba5185 January 13th, 2012 12:12 AM

Oh, yea. The 8.8 is cake, it does seem to take forever to fill up tho lol.

After I'm done greasing all the joints and tie-rods, ETC. I'm going to wash it and wax it, I've gotta polish the Alcoa's too...

Future mods are Instrument Cluster swap, I'm going to swap the 60/40 bench seat out in favor of Buckets with a center console.

I would never pay someone to change diff fluid, but that's just me and I never let anyone else work on my truck at all.

BigBlue, are you saying it makes noise when you use the starter ?

Booba5185 January 13th, 2012 11:44 AM

Man, o man, the fun I could have with a stock F150. I've lost track of all the crap I'm upgraded on mine. Even my grandpa (who gave me the truck) jokes that the only original part is the body, seats and dash. lol.

Russo2 January 13th, 2012 12:22 PM

And you are going to change that with some either supercab 60/40 seats or newer f series seats riiiggghhhtttt. Lord knows I want to.
