Exclamation Recall Alert: 2015-19 Ford F-150

Vehicles Affected: Approximately 131,000 model-year 2015-19 Ford F-150 and model-year 2017-19 Super Duty pickup trucks equipped with engine block heaters that had been inspected in a previous recall

The Problem: The engine block heater cable splice connectors may have inadvertently become damaged during the previous service procedure. A damaged block heater cable can cause an inoperative engine block heater and/or tripping of household breakers, GFCI-equipped outlets or a resistive short, increasing the risk of overheated or melted wiring and a fire while the truck is parked and the block heater is plugged in. The risk only exists while the pickup is parked and the block heater cable is plugged into an electrical outlet.

Ford said it is not aware of any reports of accidents or injuries related to the issue.

The Fix: Dealers will disable the vehicle's engine block heater cable by cutting off the plug end prongs and sealing the end cap with silicone sealant.

What Owners Should Do: Ford did not immediately announce an owner-notification schedule but said that owners will be notified when an engine block replacement cable is available. Owners can call the automaker at 866-436-7332, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
