Default 05 Mountaineer 4.0 thermostat housing/water outlet housing

I have already been told not to get one of these from a salvage yard. Advance wants 158.00 but I have found one from RockAuto for 38.00. The one on my wifes Mountaineer starting leaking yesterday and I think I came close to burning engine up if it hadn't been for another motorist getting my attention. The gauge was not showing overheat until this guy told me about the steam trail I was leaving. All is ok but I have to wait for the new part to come in. Got everthing cooled down and after an hour, topped off with water and went to get wife. Once water level is above thermostat it leaks good out the side of the outlet housing. My truck went down yesterday morn and was still at the bank un-fixed at six yesterday. We have two foster boys and with my truck down I had no choice but to go get her in her vehicle. Never got to the half mark on the temp gauge and I really have no choice but to put water in it and let her drive the 10 miles to work and come by after I get off and put more water in it for her to get home. Believe me, I do not like doing that at all. She is so pig headed she won't ask her dad to come get her and bring her home. Since this piece is leaking from the side, I was wondering if I could patch it with JB weld or something better you could recommend. The patch would only be for a few days until the new part come in. I have removed thermostat and will go with a new one when part comes in. One good thing about fri was I got my new Motorcraft battery I was wanting and my truck is fixed. Thanks for any suggestion.

I don't know why they made that piece out of nylon/plastic anyway and then want to charge 5 prices for it. I bought some permatex epoxy for plastics last nite at Advance and will patch it today. I got 2nd day delievery on the part from Rockauto so I believe I can get it to hold for a couple of days. I've been thinking about getting a second vehicle for myself, sure wish I had it. Thats great Skatebowd that the JY part part is working for you. Crazy thing around here is no yards are open on sat morn. One did call me back (rings to his cell phone) and said that part is notorious for going bad. The Mount has a little over 80k and it has been a good vehicle. Just tires battery and oil changes since she bought it in late 08.
