Default For the weather minded people

So, I know in the Useless Point Thread, we've become amateur weathermen. Well, I joke about it, but the weather is always interesting since it's a dynamic force. A couple years ago, while I was attending a Storm Spotter training class, I won a rain gauge through a raffle. Well, the rain gauge is part of a network of people all across the country that report their daily rainfall amount to an online database. This website is Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, and Snow Network. Here is a screen shot of today's rainfall amounts:

Now, if you want to be a part of this network, they require that you buy their official rain gauge that they use for reporting. The gauge is $25 + S/H. They also have a FAQ section regarding using other rain gauges. I do recommend you check it out, it's strictly volunteer, and doesn't take but a few minutes in the morning to check your gauge and report the numbers.

Here's my rain gauge:

1-2 gallon version ?? I have a large blue barrel that over flows everytime it rains, and I drain it every time too, dont need to help in the breeding of mosquitoes. This barrel holds at least 50 gallons, it is fed off the eavestrough.

Big T, it doesn't hold a gallon, but maybe 2/3 to 3/4 of a gallon. If you need something with capacity the weather service uses an 8" gauge. It's 24" tall. They call this the Standard Rain Gauge and that's what the NWS uses. But I'm not to fond of the price. Just use a barrel like Scotts said.
