Default Color Code

I can't figure out why in the example given in VIN tag decoding, the color code-exterior paint has only 1 letter (Y) displayed whereas mine has a number (1) and a letter (M). Can someone here help me out with this? My truck is a 1979 F100. I will ask the same question else where on this forum since this thread is so old and no one is likely to see it.
