Default what would make a transmission mount break in half

I changed my transmission mount today and the one that was on the truck was broken in half. I'll try and get some pic up on here later so we can figure out what went wrong or what happen to it. My truck is a 94 f150 4x4 Off Road

a variaty of things, remember the mount is there to take up the shock & torque of the drive train

The most common reason is aging and use. The rubber is susceptible to dry rot from the constant temperature changes. This process normally takes many years. The combination of temperature changes and the stress put on the mounts when ya put the vehicle in gear or take off from a stop wears the rubber out.
Also:
oil
rough terrain/speed bumps
heavy acceleration
heat & old age

I will check them. I know the rubber wears out after years of use, I also know that if well maintained the will last longer that the truck itself.

BigTrouble - just curious, did you have to change out all of the motor and trans mounts?

I never checked my transmission mount until the day I noticed that at full throttle my transmission rotated enough to put the stick from normal first gear position to past where 5th would be, far right that is, when I checked the bolts had worked their way loose to the point of almost falling off.
