Default E4OD acting crappy in OD.

ok guys in my 92 Flareside that has a E4OD it has been acting funny the past couple of days. when im in overdrive the truck will be cruising along and it sounds like the engine is reving up and down up and down. its not like its dropping in and out of overdrive. im wondering what could be causing this?

and its only in OD not in 3rd. like if i turn OD off its acting normal.

its this what everyone calls Shuttering?

or could it possibly be the Throttle Position sensor starting to take a dump?

gonna read codes here in a lil while.

Your Overdrive gear in your E4OD Transmission could be on its way out the door. To be honest with you, withought knowing mileage and driving the vehicle, it is hard to tell. Dumb question but, do you have a check engine light on?

no. no check engine light and no codes in either KOEO or KOER tests.

and i also narrowed it down its not an electrical issue like a shift solenoid or anything.

cause it only happens when the truck is not warmed up.

I had the same issue. It was my tps. I replaced it and it went away. Mine got to a point where it would just start throttling up at red lights, so get it fixed soon.

Good point LI, but without having the vehicle in front of us, its hard to really tell. We can shoot off many ideas and before you know it, he will have a new engine! A faulty TPS would definately have the motor running like crap because if its not getting propper readings so it sends bad info to the computer (sporadic loss of power is a good sign of this) but he is having OD issues.

Do I think the TPS is your issue? Not really, due to the fact that again, it is an OD issue and if you are not in OD your truck runs fine. I personally think it could be the OD gear. My suggestion is to try all of the cheaper and easier solutions presented to you first, like the TPS.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

The MPLS switch that is on the shift shaft on trans is know to go bad . Common symptoms is acting like going into neutral and back . Ussually in all gears but I had 1 do just what you said.

Can try to clean contacts . there is a little adjustment to it .

Good luck try borrowing a MPLS before you spend funds see if helps . Takes 20 minute tops to put on.

HA! HA! I'm a supporting member and you're not!
