How to Change the EGR on a 2000 Ford F-150

Change the EGR on a 2000 Ford F-150 The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve on the 2000 Ford F-150 is located on the back of the intake manifold, just in front of the firewall. Occasionally, the EGR valve can get clogged, causing the engine to operate inefficiently. Replacing the EGR valve can be done with just a few common tools and you can save time and money by doing the work yourself.

Things You'll Need
Open-end wrench
Crescent wrench
Socket wrench set

Unfasten the negative battery cable of the 2000 Ford F-150 from the battery post with an open-end wrench. Locate your EGR valve on the back of the intake manifold underneath the carburetor.

Remove the rubber vacuum hose from the metal port at the top of the valve by hand. Unfasten the emissions tube from the bottom of the EGR valve by loosening the nut with a crescent wrench and pull the tube away from the valve carefully.

Loosen the bolts that secure the EGR valve to the intake manifold with a socket wrench and take the valve off the motor.

Attach the new EGR valve to the motor with bolts and fasten the emissions tube to the bottom of the valve with the crescent wrench.

Connect the rubber vacuum hose to the metal port at the top of the new EGR valve and reattach the negative battery cable to the battery post of the 2000 Ford F-150.
