Default Starett Indicators

I have found a Starrett Dial indicator set with 2 magnetic bases, 5 indicators, connectors and other accessories. The guy wants $100 for the whole set. I looked the bases on Starrett's site and 1 base alone is $169 and the big dial gauge is $240. I think Im going to jump at this deal. Starrett is the BEST indicators money can buy and made in the USA. Anyone got any input????

Starrett's are good. Im not opposed to owning any of their stuff but i prefer Mitutoyo. Yeah, I know they're Japanese but AFAIK they are the only ones that make coolant proof equipment.

I dont use them around coolant so Im good on that. I got them in the mail yesterday and they werent quite what I had expected. The one gauge I was aiming for and had high hopes of wasnt the one I thought it was. Still a great deal all in all.....like I said...the bases are about $100 each. The guy even sent paperwork where they had been purchased.. They were originally bought in 1973. Amazing how well a good product holds up if taken care of. USA made.....GOOD STUFF!!!!

Not surprised... It s seems you make do with what ya got. I like that. With the indicator and base that Cat bought, its uses are endless. It would really come in handy dialing in an 8.8 rebuild.

Nah! I use them for cam timing and valve overlap procedures. Starrett dial indicators like I want are about $240 a piece. Ill use my cheaper one until I find a steal on a good brand. If I were to sell this set individually, I could EASILY turn a $500-600 profit.
