Default Distributor

I am having trouble setting the points in my 1973 Ford F100 pickup. It looks like that the mechanism or plate that the points are attached to has unusual side to side movement which does not allow the points to stay calibrated. Is this movement common and if so how do I set the points. The truck has the 390 cu. Inch engine.

You may need a new breaker plate or a rebuilt distributor.
