Default speedometer quit working

Looking for help with my speedometer.
Background: since I have owned this 1967 F100 the speed indicated was always incorrect at speeds above 40 mph. As speed increased, the error was greater, so that at 65mph indicated on the dashboard, I was actually traveling about 72mph.
Finally, the speedo quit altogether, and no more miles were registered on the odometer either.
So I put in a new speedo cable. This did not fix the problem.
So I put in a new speedometer. This did not fix the problem.
Now I am ordering a new speedometer gear (the one that attaches to the cable at the transmission.
The old one doesn't appear to be worn down or ruined, so I am not too certain this will actually solve my problem.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

thanks, Doran

Note that there are different gears for different axle ratios and tire sizes. That is probably why your old speedometer was not accurate, the truck did not have stock gears or tire size.

Sure enough, my gear ratio is original stock, however I have larger wheels and tires than stock. I understand this part of the puzzle. My current problem is that after replacing the speedo cable, gear, and speedometer on the dash . . . it doesn't register any speed at all. So, something else is causing the problem.
I will pull the cable back off the speedo behind the dash and see if it spins while the truck is moving . . . and work my way back from there.

It's possible that it didn't get pushed into the back of the gauge completely.
