Question half ass mech needs advice

help, my 03- f150/4.6 is got a little twitch ideling and will run fine up to about 35-40. then it feels like its not getting enough gas. had the dealer put new plugs and a new coil on the number 8 cyl this past summer when it had similar problem. the question is, with 170k on her is it likely the coils will fail and if so how hard to diy. out of work now for 11 months and funds really low.

I always forget to mention this, and this time its on top of my head. Check the vacuum lines off the back side of the throttle body. Though typically that will flag a lean code.

the IAC can become dirty, doesn't take much to pull it off and give it a good rinse with a cleaner. I used carb cleaner on mine.

Default The sputters

COILS i think you got it ..
you might get lucky at a salvage yard or maybe craigslist . hell if you have a buddy with same type of truck steal - i mean borrow the coils and see if the problem goes away . Fairly straight forward to replace the coil plugs in on top of the spark plugs . first unplug the elec plug on the top of each coil while the truck is at a idle one at a time see if the idle changes if it does plug it back in and go to the next and so on . If you find that one does not change the idle BINGO now to rule out the chance that it could be a injector move that coil to a different cylinder if the miss goes with the coil YALA bad coil if the miss stays at the same cylinder then could be a fuel injector going bad or stuck ..
Hope this helps

Sorry I had to run earlier, old mans ranger didn't make it home, needed towed.

Coils, not hard to do, just awkward angles and time consuming. Dont expect to be done in an hour, expect minimum of 2 if you do both banks.
