Default cassette player

Got a 2000 F250 with a radio/cassette player. When I put in a cassette, it says no tape. Hmmm. I want to put my phone thru the cassette player. Picked up a cheap adaptor from walmart, but the NO Tape baffles me. Any ideas out there??
