OK update:

Unscrewed the MAF Sensor and cleaned it with MAF sensor cleaner also unbolted the IAC valve and gave that a really good cleaning. I put them both back on and then unplugged the trucks computer over night. Bolted the computer back in this morning and the truck is still running like sh~t.

It's really cold out but I guess next is to inspect the O2 sensor and wire harness to make sure nothing melted or anything. From there I will check the fuel pressure at the regulator and see what thats telling me. I will have to borrow a buddys gauge to check it.

It's really cold out and I was trying to avoid getting under the truck! Oh well.

You can check the TPS and the IAC to see if it's operating correctly:

http://oldfuelinjection.com/index.php?p=39

Might as well check the ACT and ECT while your in there:
http://oldfuelinjection.com/?p=29
http://oldfuelinjection.com/?p=28

and for the love of all that is holy, please do not put a carb on that motor. IMO (and I will prolly hear about this) swapping to a carb is like saying "I can't figure this out so I'm just gonna get rid of electronics." EFI is more effiecient and reliable; there's just more to understand than there is with a carb. If you know what a potentiometer and a thermal resistor\transistor is, then you can understand EFI in a matter of hours.

LOL I would never go with a carb... this is 2012. Even if I ever get my 67 Mustang Fastback, it will be all EFI!

By the way, I did remove and clean the Idle Air Bypass valve with MAF sensor cleaner. Still the same symptoms.

I went and ordered a new O2 sensor, should be in my office this week... hopefully this is the issue because I've just about covered everything else... just have to check for a vacuum leak.

Think you led to the conclusion that the injectors are not leaking and are working correctly. And if I rem correctly, your tank was recently (w/in a year or two) refabbed/cleaned. And I would safely imagine that the gas filter is good to go.

Besides the O2 and vacuum leak possibility - do you think it is a bad/loose ground connection?

I know that you said your smog pump is removed, but what about the rest of the thermactor system? Is the vacuum canister still installed? What about your EGR is it still installed?

Well, PROBLEM SOLVED... it was to cold to get under the truck and change the O2 sensor SOOOOOO... I pulled in front of Advance Auto, popped the hood, removed the computer and the IAC valve, ran inside and bought a new IAC valve, ran back out and installed the new IAC valve and then the computer, started her up and what do you know...

Idle is a bit rough right now until the computer relearns itself, especially with the damn E303 cam in her, but she is about a 95 out of 100 right now!

Vehicle:

1995 f150 flareside
302 5.0

Symptoms:

Extremely rough idle
Engine pops when given gas
Poor fuel economy
Lack of power

OBD I Trouble Code:

172: HEGO - HO2S - Sensor Fualt Lean

Cause:

Bad IAC Valve

CASE CLOSED!

Great news! Glad to hear you got it fixed. I wanna see that motor in action, aside from the E303 cam, its the way I wanna go with mine...might be a 351 instead of a 302, but who knows.

So a completely clean IAC doesn't mean it's good?
Hmmmmm I may have to get one of those along with a map.
Even though I have put two different ones on and it made no difference.
Anyone got a good way to check the map sensor?
