No it won't... It's just not reloadable. It won't hurt the barrel, who in the hell told you that? That's all the Surplus ammo was...

This one can be yours for less than $500:

Why do you carry a .45?

A: Because they don't make a .46!

Now they make a .90!....or a twin .45!

I was always told that steel casing will hurt the barrel because the casing is just as hard as the barrel, so if there is any dirt or particles on the round when it goes into the chamber it'll scratch up the barrel as much as the round. With brass casing, the brass is softer so it will be scratched up before the barrel will.

I've shot steel casings and haven't had a bit of trouble. The ammo for a Mosin Nagant is lacquer coated steel, they're still around.

first lets call it the chamber and not the barrel

reason for laquer coating is to prevent rust
if there is a red ring at the bullet goes into the case thats the waterproofing, you should see the same around the primer

the reason alot of small arms surplus ammo casing are made of steel, because brass was becoming a valuable comodity and only avaliable for larger cannon type shells
in fact Germany during WWII was making 9mm parabelum bullets, the thing that goes out the barrel out of steel ; due to their extensive use of the MP-40 Schmeisser sub machine gun ( you see them in ever WWII American/Nazi movie)
[alot of this surplus ammo is left over from the WWII era and through the present as it is cheap to produce and preasently for a profit]
thats all I have to say about that, this being a 1911 Thread

theres my 2 cents, I'm not getting into this any deeper (do your research)

Yea, you're right, chamber not barrel. Only question I have is how would steel on steel not wear the chamber?

I'll never shoot anything steel in my guns. 1911 or not.

A 1911 Colt .45 -- valued between $150,000 and $200,000 -- recovered from the waistband of Clyde Barrow's pants -- fetched $240,000 at an auction in Nashua, New Hampshire. The gun was plucked from the bandit's body by Frank Hamer, the relentless posse leader who tracked Bonnie and Clyde.
