Default 1988 F150 Regular Cab build thread

Welp, I'm the new owner of a 1988 F150! He took $200 cash and my pistol. It needed some persuasion but it fired up and ran, drove it around his block, transmission shifted like SILK, park brake decided to stick itself and truck wouldn't go for a bit. Both tanks work! Gas Gauge don't, Voltmeter didn't look like it did, but I've got a cluster sitting here, even got a redline on it, gonna try it and see if it's just the gauges or the senders. Dude was AWESOME!! Even got two Flowmaster 40's for free!

Anyway, truck needs tuned up major, ain't ran good in 2 years, he put new cap and rotor on it, I stopped by Advance and bought a new Plug Wire set, Spark Plugs, and a Belt, along with some Turbo 108 Octane booster to clean the system out.

Gonna head back out there Saturday to see if I can't get it running good enough to go down the highway, it's ALL highway from where the truck is to home...

Default 1988 F150 Regular Cab build thread

Starting a build thread on my new to me 1988 F150 Regular Cab XLT Lariat.

Specs:

4.9L 300 I6.

M5OD-R2 that is supposed to be newer with a new clutch, $1200 worth of work done to it.

Short Bed.

Dual Tanks, both work.

A/C.

Cruise.

Sliding Rear Window.

Rear Step Bumper.

Tilt Wheel

8.8" Rearend with 3.55:1 Gear Ratio and Open Diff, Axle Code "19".

The Truck is an F153 GVWR, which is a heavy half rating basically. Most common I've seen is F151 and F152.

First on the list is a MAJOR tune-up, the truck is still parked at the P.O's house, it runs and drives, just not very well.... Needs new plugs and wires, and to be timed, as well as new gas, also bought a new Serpentine Belt. I've picked up some "Turbo 108" Octane Booster to help clean the fuel system, it's gonna get some fresh gas when I go back out Saturday, it will most likely take a couple weeks to get it home, the tag is out Two Years..

Anyway, will post more when I get done Saturday, along with some pics!

Also scored two Flowmaster 40 Mufflers with it.

no grace period on the tag after a sale ?
here in Ga you have 30 days to get a tag and no title required after 25 years old
I had a Truck that I never bought a tag for just re-wrote a new Bill of Sale every 29 days

That fan, turbo lookin' thing, blows cool air on to the fuel rail and injectors to keep the fuel from vapor locking. There is also a temp sensor near the rail that is responsible for its operation. From what I've read in multiple sources it was an 88 and 89 thing only and was done away with in favor of heat shields. The fan will and is designed to run even if the keys are in your pockets.

Could be a future mod in doing away with it and finding the heat shields that came in later years. In fact, its kind of spurred an idea about insulating the fuel lines and what the outcome would be. Hmmmm?
