Default Random Power Loss

1988 f250 5.8l. Just replaced steering column was wore out along with new starter switch. Truck had a problem of just shutting off while driving, which I thought was part of the column being so wore out.. Connections are tight at pump on the frame. Used to have to listen for the pump to prime before starting it. (Also watching for check engine light to come on) before trying to start it. If light DID NOT come on I knew it wasn't primed. Could relay be doing this randomly or maybe ecu!!!l?? Please help fellas. Could use. Break, I'm facing back surgery the end of this week and I won't be able to work on my fat girl (88 f250 extcab long bed)
