Default 239 oil filter canister

i have a 50 f1 with the 239 flat v8.
how do i remove the sludge from the bottom of the oil filter canister when i am changing the filter?

haven't seen an F1 filter
on early '60 models you could hold the canister in your hand
if not get creative with a long rod & rag
don't know how long you've owned it or how long it's been running
case in point them old timer only used 30w non-detergent; reason for that sludge
don't know what your running or intend to run but a detergent oil may cause problems
seen how you can't know what was run in it I'd use non-detergent

how bout give us a photo
