Red face Power loss in the afternoon

My name is JamesPaul Jones. I recently was given a 1992 F 159 pickup truck that I have gradually been working on and fixing things on. The truck had not been maintained very regularly, and after about three weeks of running it on a daily basis I had to change the fuel filter. I changed it because on that day it was acting like it was starved for fuel.

It ran fine for about four days and then in the afternoons it began to spit and sputter, cough and wheeze and many times die on me. In the mornings the truck runs fine and does not miss a lick. Plenty of power, etc. In the afternoons, especially in traffic, with many red lights, etc. it acts up something horrible. I have never had a vehicle do this to me. I have owned many and worked on them all. I am stumped. Please Help.
