Default 82 351w Firing order and other problems

I am having problems with my 82 Ford F150 4x4 351W EECIII.

On all of the diagrams I have seen the #1 on the distributor points to the #7 cylinder, on my truck however, the #1 points to #1 cylinder.

Also, I have come across two diferent firing orders for this truck.

if anyone has any info please help

Thank you

From another forum:

firing order 1982 351w
If it's a California truck it's a good chance the ignition is EEC-III (brown grommet on ignition module.)

The EEC-III distributor rotor fires alternately from both sides of the distributor rotor.

The firing order you listed is correct for a 351w, but the spark plug wires for an EEC-III distributor will be wired counter clock-wise in a different order.

351w firing order, CCW: 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8

351w wire order, CCW: 1-5-7-8-6-3-4-2
Note that the cylinders are numbered this way:

1 - 2 - 3 - 4 passenger side front to back
5 - 6 - 7 - 8 driver side front to back

The older 260-302's use a different firing order but many aftermarket camshafts for older Fords often are the newer 302 HO/351W order. Just double check with your cam grinder or pull the valve covers find top dead center and start watching valves, you should be able to figure it out!

Also remember that the position of the spark plug wires does not matter AS LONG AS THE ORDER IS MAINTAINED! If you need to rotate the cap for any reason don't worry about pulling the wires and rotating them around. Again this is OK as long as the firing order for the engine is maintained and you check your engines timing.
