1997 351W EFI...
I'm a newbie here. Thanks for having me.
I'm sure this has been asked, but I would like to get some input on this. Before anyone says why go carb?,..My son just wants to.
My son has a 1997 F350 with a 302 (motor is tired) in it now that is EFI with a C6 Trans. We have a 97 351W EFI. He wants to convert the 351W over to carburetor. He said 650DP or 750DP? I told him a 650 would be fine? What are the suggested parts for a mild build that won't break the bank? The engine runs well. Decent intake, long tube headers, a mild cam (using stock valve train what would be a decent cam to use) with new lifters and springs if needed, timing chain and gear set and gasket set/seals. I've read that the distributor needs to be replaced? Can a standard HEI be used and how is it wired? Also what about the wiring,.. does it need to be wired differently and what do we need to do with the PCM? Can we use the electric fuel pump that's in the tank by adding a regulator? Is there anything else we need to do with the fuel system? Anything that I'm missing that needs to be done to convert it over? Anyone have any info on this or links to a conversion like this or have done this themselves that has a build thread on this? Also, does anyone have the torque specs on the engine and main and rod bearing acceptable clearances? Sorry for all the questions, but we need some help with this.
Thank you,
John
