What Engine is in my 74 F100
I just bought my dream car, an f100. However, before I can inspect it, I need to fix an exhaust leak. I am going to have the manifolds resurfaced and replace the bolts and gaskets. But, I came across a problem. Every auto shop website I get on doesnt have my engine as an option. The sticker on the valve cover says "351W catalyst" but I cant find that as an option for a 74 F100 on any sites. It's a V8 obviously, and a 351 Windsor. Did F100s come out of the factory with those? Can anyone help me identify the year of the engine? I want to know as much about it as I can before I do any work.
Thanks for the help,
Jedidiah

Someone has done an engine transplant. The first year for the 351 in a F-100 was 1977. Nothing had catalysts before 1975.
Look on the block, passenger side by the bellhousing, for the casting number. It will be 4 digits.
1st digit:
C = 1960's
D = 1970's
E = 1980's
F = 1990's
2nd digit = exact year
3rd digit = what type vehicle:
A = Big Ford car
Z = Mustang
T = Truck
I don't know the rest.
4th digit = E = Engine
So - a E2TE would be a 1982 out of a truck.

It appears the code is "D4AE". I found it right above the starter on tge passenger side like you said. I guess that means it came out of a large car from 74?

I did some more reseach. There is another code on it that says "8B2". I discovered that that means the block was cast on February 2, 1978. Appearently, once Ford found a cast that they liked, they used it for a while. So the cast was first used in 74, and was used at least to 78 when my engine was made. There you go.
