had a piece of high temp rubber tubing that was close to the I.D. of the remaining piece of dip stick tube. threaded a stainless bolt into the inside of the rubber tubing. used tie wire around the bolt head to the dip stick mounting bolt to keep in place. new tube should be in tomorrow when i get home from work. checked out my temporary fix last night,...was holding up pretty good.

The time has come. By the end of December the beast will be gone. I'm sending it on to it's next life. Gotta buddy who has a 79 F100 he wants to unload. He's been wanting my Excursion to make a weekend toy. Also got my eyes on a 78 pick up that's possible coming up for sale soon. Either way,....it's got to go. My little girls aren't very happy when we talk about getting rid of it. It's the first vehicle they can remember.

well, got all moved in to the new joint. just dropped the excursion off to have some work done. having new valve stem seals put in. gonna check and see if the guides are worn also,....(probably are) and have them replaced. new pinion bearing and seal and axle seals for the rear. gonna get some new shocks when i get it back as the fronts are all but shot. might as well change them all.

after 217k on the beast,...it finally spit out it's first spark plug. the worst one too,....back of passenger side. broke the hold down tab on the coil pack also. picked up an american made Denso OEM coil pack for $34 and a $60 Canadian made (at least it wasn't Taiwan made) tap kit for Ford aluminum heads and had it back on the road in 20 minutes and 1 cold beer. think i'm gonna buy a couple more of those kits and keep them in the glove box, that way i'll be ready if WHEN it happens again, no matter where i'm at.

They won't blow out if you use a torque wrench - 28 ft/lb. Motorcraft plugs and NO antiseize recommended.

The only inserts that last are Timesert and Lock N Stitch.

yes, Timeserts are all we use on old Harleys

I guess I got lost, on the blown plug
I thought the engine was a 302 disguised as a 351
