Default my gas gauge wont work

Its my f100 ford 1979 step side it worked the whole time I had it the guy before me had 2 tanks on it so he had a toggle switch to switch gas tanks and he took the tank out but kept the toggle so a week ago I look at my gauge and it says empty so I pit 40 bucks in it and it didn't work......what's wrong??

Either the sending unit is bad or there is a connection problem. Have you pulled the toggle switch to check you connections there?
