Default Oil pan question

Mine is leaking and I'd like to change the gasket. Looking at my chiltons manual it lists draining coolant, removing upper intake manifold, exhaust and transmission crossmember. I know the mounts will have to be unbolted and motor raised some, but is it necessary to remove all that other stuff to remove the pan?

Never done that one so I cannot offer any advise.

yea, I think I'm going to try and do it by just unbolting the exhaust at the manifold, taking the bolts out of the motor and trans mounts and jacking the motor up enough to get clearance.

go slowly and keep an eye on things as you raise the engine, watch the firewall also
keep in mind that a lot of the crank and mains are below the level of the gasket

are you gonna use an engine hoist? or try to jack it up from underneath? I believe they suggest removing the intake manifold to allow for your chains to attach to the motor eyes without any pressure against the plenum. when I removed the motor from my 88 f150, I didn't take the plenum off,....the chain had a lot of pressure along the side of it.

not sure about your year but 302 heads have bolt holes in the front and rear
I use a chain from the rear of one head to the front of the other

I'll be jacking it up from underneath with a block of wood on the jack.

what will the block of wood be pushing against ?

also check your engine mounts while you got it up, as well as the one for the trans on that crossmember
they'er not that expensive, and would be easy to replace while you got it up

Just replaced all three mounts about two weeks ago. I plan on using a piece of 2 x 4 long enough to span the width of the oil pan and raise it there. The main pressure will be on the vertical sides of the oil pan. Did it this way to replace the motor mounts with no issue. I'm hoping to raise it and shim it up with wood under the mounts so the jack can be removed.
