Question Strange Noise When Opening Door

New 2018 F-150 Super-Cab, only 1200 miles driven

went to the Dealer, did not make the sound

questions asked:
auto running boards - NO
easy down tailgate - NO
does passenger lock button up top by window move - NO
auto lock tailgate without key hole - YES

almost each time I open the driver door here is a clicking sound (about 6 times - did did did did did dit) that comes from the center of the Truck on the passenger side

took Truck to the Dealer, I could not make the sound happen

it does not happen opening the door repeatedly, only after the truck has sit for say 30 minutes

any ideas

found my answer on another site FORDF150.net and also on the internet

apparently the sounds is the Fuel Pump turning on when the door opens

something to do with Direct Injection

I have called 2 Dealers and no one knows

That is strange. Maybe the fuel system starts priming as soon as you open the door?

yes it does, something about this new direct injection

they hooked it up to the door instead of when you turn the key
so you have an instant start-up

here's some info I found

Just so it's clear, the 5.0 also has the same direct injection and port injection for 2018. All engines do except the 3.3. The prime on door open allows the fuel system to bleed down which prevents the early failure of the HPFP shaft seal. Conversely the pump needs fuel immediately or else it will destroy itself from a dry start. Being tied to the door it gives the truck time to actuate the pump before the key is turned. The delay was not built in to the key because of a possible nuisance delay situation. Also if you remote start a 2018 there is a delay for the fuel pump built into the strategy. This is how it was explained to me by a Bosch systems engineer during a trade event. Other manufacturers are doing it also.

Its the fuel system building pressure. Do a search on it. It's supposed to release pressure from the injectors when it sits for an extended period and when you open the driver door it builds the pressure back up to enable you to crank the truck
