Default Deer Season 2013/2014

this is a continuation of the Bow Season Thread, since bow season is over

I've seen several deer just no shots presented, I'm kinda picky where I place the bullet

neighbor shot a small 6 pointer this morning that I've been seeing since August
I helped with the skinning & quartering, I showed them how to do it without having to drop the guts
I've never seen any reason to drop the guts see'en how it's a messy job, unless you want them 2 little inside tenderloins

Yeah.......I've always wondered why people gut a deer too! Unless its for those two little pieces of meat, it was a bad shot (gut shot), or its warmer than usual and you want to pack it with ice for traveling reasons, I see no point for it either. I hang mine by the rear legs, cape it around where the skin stays attached to the stomach area, cut out back straps, cut hind quarters off, front shoulders if they aren't damaged too bad and some of the meat on the back of the neck.

As far as season goes here, bow is still in until the 1st of Nov, then early muzzle loader comes in for 2 weeks, Then rifle comes in for 2 weeks, then a late muzzle loader season, then bow comes back in until March 31st 2014

I connected shortly after 5
I was sitting on the ground in a group of trees, the wind was wrong for me to use the stand
the deer seen me the same time I saw it and it took off as soon as I raised the rifle, when the smoke settled the deer was down and kicking; I made a bad hit, high and to the back , broke the backbone and she was crawling away using her front legs had to finish her off with a slice to the juggler

going back in a few minutes and see if the 2 that were with her will show up

doesn't keep me from hunting as long as I'm not coughing
sat on stand till 10 yesterday morning, went walking on neighboring property (trespassing) saw 3 does but no buck sign
the terrain here is laced with ridges & valleys 200' up and down the deer stay on the high ground and I was too far from the house to drag back, even with a 4 wheeler some of the terrain is just too steep and many trees

seen hog sign about 200 yds behind the house at a spring with a trail running parallel half way up the top of the ridge; I set a stand near the water hole watching the trail, if I make a shot they'll roll down to my stand
then an easy drag to the skinning pole

I have a CVA inline. Just a cheap one but never a miss fire yet. I just bought it last November. Don't wait for me to have a miss fire......gimme your tips now!

I haven't bought a scope for it yet either. Im going to get it out tmw or fri and put a few rounds thru it. Want to make sure its accurate so I don't have a doe running around dragging its back legs!! LOL
