I am a idiot. I was thinking this had 8 lug wheels and was a 3/4 Ton. It only has 5 so it is a Half Ton and the whole truck is original yet.It is a 1/2 Ton so the F10 in the serial number would be correct...Thanks

did you check the rear end ?
and what have you decided ?
in my opinion
if it runs I'd buy it, but if its been sitting up, fuel and fluid along with filters need changing, also may need point & plugs and timed
that Truck would bring $900+ down here in the condition I see, even if it didn't run

That's the first truck of that Generation I've seen without a step bed. A survivor for sure. Great Job J in decoding that VIN!!!

I thought the same, but for farm use a short bed isn't pratical
1957 - 1960
pleanty of 'Stylesides' on google images
Third Generation (1957–60)
Ford F-Series third generation
Introduced in 1957, the third-generation F-series was a significant modernisation and re-design. Front wings became integrated into the body, and the StyleSide bed continued the smooth lines to the rear of the pick-up.
The cabover F-Series was discontinued, having been replaced by the tilt-cab C-Series.
In 1959, Ford began in-house production of four-wheel drive pick-ups

Well it is paid for and title in hand and is coming home tomorrow. There is a complete tuneup kit in the glovebox even. It has the big crossover you were saying on the motor. I am sure it is the original 292..
The rearend looks like either the one in the middle or third pic..I will check some more on that too..
The vin number thing is still bothering me. I am sure this truck is a Factory 4x4. The Vin I listed is definitely correct and has only 11 numbers and letters. It starts with a F10.. There is no doubt it has 11 numbers and not 12 in the serial number. I will photograph the plate and show you when I get it home this weekend..Thanks for all the help so far. It should be up and running this weekend if it will run..

Exciting!
keep us posted on your progress & and if you need help or have any questions
I wouldn't worry about the VIN
the other #'s & letterers (the code) says it's a 4x4
title should have the same # but check anyway

if it has old gas
this 10% ethanol is BS, and don't last long
if its been sitting long, smell the fuel tank and see if it has a varnish smell; sign of bad gas
what I would do either way, as it has a behind the seat tank it's easy to siphon the old stuff out , get as much out as possible
add new gas then let it run awhile
I was going to say , get new battery and run the fuel out from the carb fuel line, but you may fry the starter amoungest other things

on the rear end, the key is the vertical ribs and letters
here's a good link that i refer to often about the 9 inch
http://www.kevinstang.com/Ninecase.htm
reading this will make you a educated 9 inch owner
check the chunk hopefully you will find the original ID tag attached to one of the bolts
that will tell the whole rear end story
decode it in the link above
a lot of racer prefer the 9 inch I have 2 depending on the length I will race
it's easy & quick to change out

Gas smells somewhat old, but not as bad as some I have encountered. I have been a Mechanic all my life, so I will have no trouble getting it going.. It is actually what I do for a living. Not a modern junk mechanic, I work on older stuff..Thanks and will update my progress when there is any...
