Default Knock sensor

Can provision be made for a knock sensor in an '87 block? Like could a hole just be drilled and tapped in the same place on the '87 block as the knock sensor would have been on the '90 block?

Wait, is the knock sensor in the block or the back of the lower intake manifold?

Okay, long-winded post here.

So I took the knock sensor out of the '90 block and tried to find a hole in the '87 block that it would thread into. No luck. I tried finding a connector on the wiring harness that it would plug into, but again nothing. Then I looked at the block and saw a bulbous formation in the casting immediately below where the sensor would normally be (see pictures). However, there is no hole above it as in the '90 block. I measured the hole that the sensor came from and it was 1-1/4" deep. I transferred the measurement to the other block and 1-1/4" was nearly to the bottom of the bulbous formation. I'm convinced that the sensor should go there, but my question is why was there no sensor on that engine to begin with? When did they start putting the knock sensor on the 5.0L? (Sorry the pictures keep coming up sideways. No idea how to fix that or how to insert them in the post body.)

1985 5.0L EFI has a Knock Sensor.

I believe the 87' had it on the back of the Block.
