Default 1992 F250 Engine swap

I currently have a 7.3 diesel in the truck and it has piston slap at 266,000 miles. I am looking to put either a 5.8 or 460 V8 into the truck to replace the 7.3. Has anyone done this type of swap and if so, what will I run into when I am doing it. It has the E40D automatic transmission too. Not sure if the bellhousing is the same for the gas engines.

Diesel and gas engines DO NOT share the same bellhousing, and IIRC the E4OD between the two aren't the same, the Diesels are more beefier for all the torque the Diesel makes.

I haven't done the swap personally but maybe someone else here with more knowledge has.

Go pick up another diesel or a whole different truck if you aren't attached to this one for any reason. Until you change over the whole fuel system, trans, wiring, computer (that your diesel lacks and the gas truck needs) and have the actual engine itself, you'd be way ahead finding a lowermile 7.3 to put in. Heck you'd be further ahead finding a 7.3 powerstroke to put in, it's less wiring that a gas truck.

The 7.3 and 460 Do share trans . quickest way to go is donor truck with all things needed . Harness its a quick swap .Harness ecu in engine bay . I just drop tanks and have them clean do pumps and lines good to go . You have motor out any way trans is just few more things to unhook .

Yes its more in depth than that there is things to be addressed but a well built 460 is cheaper to do and up keep and if you dont haul all time will move your truck fine . if you have all parts on hand And time to do it . no biggie.

HA! HA! I'm a supporting member and you're not!

They share a trans and the bell housing is even the same size, but the bolt pattern is not the same.

For the time to do all this and parts, id think youd be better off overhauling the 7.3 you currently have. What exactly are you talking about with "piston slap"? slapping the valves, slapping the block, the cylinder, the connecting rod on crank??? I overhaul diesels and have actually done a 7.3....its not a bad job if you have a manual and tools/time. Is it a turbo or just plain jane 7.3?

Lowriders are for guys who can't get it up!
