Be nice if they had the set in 2 inch or 2 1/4 inch. I'll close my mouth and open my ears to the motor masters in here about motors an stuff but here's my two cents.

My 2001 GMC had a 4.8 (redesigned GM 283) factory OEM exhaust for a little while until i could afford to get a better exhaust. My goal was to improve mpg, power, torque and sound. It had the factory Y-pipe to a OEM single baffled exhaust muffler and out the the passenger rear.

I installed a 3inch Magnaflow with duals using 3 inch pipes and lost a lot of low end power. It also sounded like crap and to be honest a young kids rice burner on drugs with his ear closer to the ra-did-io speaker than anything resembling brains. Yeah I know you seen the camry in my garage but its late and im the only one on here on a friday night. i gots no life!

I ended up taking out the dual muffler and did single in single out Magnaflow 2 3/4 in/out to get my low end back. It had good power, great sound and i could get great mileage when i kept an egg between my foot and the pedal. Just wasnt enough engine power to do it with 3 inch duals and i didnt have the money or desire to mod out the motor. Doing an engine mod woulda defeated the purpose of saving money.

What makes me wonder is the F150 4.6 motor is not much more then a better totally redesigned 289 motor. The 5.4 motor is basically a 330ci and it might be ok with 3.5 system but if i were the mech that wanted a satisfied customer i'd have to recommend a smaller set of exhaust pipes on the 4.6 motor.

That said, with a dual 3.5 inch open flow muffler like the magnaflow it might be better to run two 2 inch or 2 1/4 inch pipes out with a set of 10 inch 3 inch black chrome tips at the ends.

Might be interesting with some dyno numbers?
