Default Ford 8.8 Axle Talk

So I thought I'd create this so we can talk about the 8.8 axle and what all we've done to them or plan to do to them.

The axle in my 85 that I'm pulling now that I can keep it, I plan on replacing the 3.55's with 3.73's and cleaning and painting, might even put a rock guard on it and I plan on installing a locker or a posi unit.

What do you have planned for your 8.8 or what have you already done?

I'll update this with pics as I get stuff done.

Blue I have to say it all depends on what the truck is going to be used for? In my case 3.55 gear is really perfect for a DD but would like it to have a limited slip. The ideal situation would 2 rear ends. One with 3.08 gears for gas mileage and a 2nd with 4.10 gears for some fun.

I believe it can, but you need a tran like carrier to put it in.

The only thing I've done to mine is a 4 clutch upgrade, and I love it. It made a world of difference.

the ratio is equlivent to the number of teeths or teethissis on the ring gear and the pinion has to mate

Blue that isn't a bad price. But I would count on having to rebuild the clutch pack in it.

What's a tran like carrier?

Joey, that's like Leon Spinks(spelling?) being interviewed and the reporter asking what he was going to do with the money if he won and he said "he was gonna buy him some new teefas".

Should be able to take it off to drill and tap it. But do it at the top.
