Default Wheel Spacers or Custom Wheels

I am getting ready to put wheels on my 1969 F100 and need some help. When I look at wheels that I want they have a backspace of 4.5" or 5". The backspace of the stock wheels that are on my truck now are 3.25". If I try to mount these wheels with that backspace they will hit my leaf springs or inner bed tub wall. Is the recommendation to just use high quality spacers with these wheels or to get custom made wheels?

Thanks for any input.

I guess ultimately it comes down to how much you want to shell out. If you're undecided on which wheel you want, maybe get the spacers just to get the truck on the road until you make a decision. You can always sell the spacers afterwards.

Proper wheels are always safer than spacers.

Spacers add to the distance between the wheel and the hub and have been know to fail on rare occasions. They are the lesser option but is it worth it in the long run is a question to think of?? If it is a temporary thing then it should be good for street use for a short while. I would run them for a few days and take the wheel off and check the torque on the spacers just to be on the safe side.

I have been running 2" aluminum spacers on my truck for over ten years with no issues

Thank you everyone for your replies. The cost to have custom wheels made with a specific backspace is really high. I know a lot of jeeps and off road trucks just them without any issues. Was just wanting to make sure these were safe for street use.
