yes the .338 Lapua, gets the double thumbs up from me
I have a friend that has one and its awsome
we shoot on a drit road at 650 yds; the longest range we have
if the wind is down we kill pie plates
its hard to describe, but with the .308 & the .338 sighted in @ 400yds
we shoot at the 650 yd target you would not belive how short the .308 kicks dust compared to the .338

Red Jacket did an AR in the .458 SOCOM for hog killen
they had problems with the round feeding it was hanging up just below the soft nose
they never did say what they did to fix it, but I can imagine
yes it killed hogs, but dropping them on the spot (which was their intent)
only a head or spine hit does that on an animal regardless of caliber, which can be accomplished with a .22 LR
don't get me wrong, yes the AR .458's the hog gun for me
and one I would not have to think twice about useing in a Combat situation, and to put an adversary down with one shot its the one
just as back when, I was still useing a .45 1911 and my cohorts were foaming at the mouth over the advent of the military switching to a 9mm
the only replacement for bad shot placement is heavy bullet weight and big bore diameter to permanently take the opposition out of the game with one shot

Went to a local pawn shop today(were dad got the 1911) and I put me a Thompson Center Thunderhawk .50cal Muzzleloader in layaway. Also looked at 2 Savage .270's, one wooden stocked and one synthetic, I'm thinking of putting the wooden stocked one in layaway.

Did some research before I put the muzzleloader in layaway, it is $199 at the pawn shop, and I found a used one online for $190. It doesn't really matter to me I just want a damn gun...

For me, a muzzleloader wouldn't be a first gun.

Blue
and nothing against the .270; they shoot flat and the 130gr is fine for medium size game
I recall you mentioning one some time back
I dont see the .270 cartridges to ofen on the shelf
why a .270
any why not the synthetic stock over wood
