2015 RECALL
Vehicles Affected: Approximately 33,500 model-year 2015 Ford F-150 pickup trucks manufactured between March 18, 2014, and Aug. 5, 2015, at the Dearborn Truck Plant in Michigan, and between Aug. 11, 2014, and Aug. 6, 2015, at the Kansas City Assembly Plant in Missouri
The Problem: When passing a large, highly reflective truck, the adaptive cruise control radar could incorrectly identify the truck as being in the F-150's lane of travel; this could cause the vehicle to brake until the large truck is no longer perceived to be in the same lane. This issue could also result in the activation of the collision warning system's red warning light and tone, as well as the illumination of the brake lights. The unexpected braking could increase the risk of a crash involving a vehicle traveling behind the F-150. Ford said it is aware of one accident possibly attributable to this issue, but no reported injuries.
The Fix: Dealers will update the adaptive cruise control module software for free.
What Owners Should Do: Ford did not immediately announce an owner-notification schedule. Owners can call the automaker at 866-436-7332 for more info.
