Default Purchase Question

Looking to buy a ranger ext or crew cab (4wd opt) 2000 and up $4k - $5k range to use as DD.
Which years or models should I stay away from, & what known problems should I be aware of? Bought trucks before so I know basics but not with rangers.
Which would be more bang for the bucks Ranger or Sport trac?
Thanks in advance

There never was a crew cab Ranger. Only the SportTrac had a crew cab, and it only has a 4 foot bed. It was essentially an Explorer with an open back.

The 4 banger was reliable but underpowered. The 3.0 V6 was also somewhat underpowered but reliable. The pushrod 4.0 was bulletproof. The OHC 4.0 had some cam chain issues but has a lot of power.

Does anyone know which truck bed my 03 ranger ext cab ? Will a s10, or nissan bed fit ? Could I swap it out for a stepside bed? Or are there repair panels Available?
Sorry for all the questions, but I am new to Ford pickups.
Thanks Stan

You can swap it out with a Ranger Flareside bed and tailgate or another Ranger Styleside bed of the same length, but not a Chevy or Nissan bed.
