changed my coolant filter this afternoon for the first time, was supposed to change it about 300 miles ago but a drive to boca grande this morning took priority

those who own a 6.0L and dont have a coolant filter.... GET ONE ASAP!!!!

the crap ford coolant and sand left in the block will forever clog your EGR cooler and oil cooler...

this is what came out of a filter with about 900 miles on it, after a coolant flush was done at 136,000 miles

yes that is sand

that drill bit is a 5/32 bit, you can see how large some of the pieces are

the closest CAT dealer/parts place is 30 miles away on the other side of the bay, this is the kind at NAPA that is equivalent to CAT EC-1

Correct me if I'm wrong but that is sand from the block casting process? Yikes!!!!

I asked because a friend of mine had a 6.0 dually crewcab that's approaching 110k miles and needs to have the truck last as long as possible. I'm going to make it a point that he sees this. Just wanted to make sure my understanding was correct. Thanks!

man, i tried replying 3 times but my ADD kicked in and failed to finish the post lol

ive read about some 7.3's having sand left in the block causing wear on the water pump.

the problems with the cooling system is sand clogs the oil cooler and egr cooler, and the ford gold coolant has silicates that cant withstand the high temperatures from the egr cooler. the silicates start to gel up and clog the egr and oil cooler... thats why so many are now recommending CAT EC-1 or equivalent coolant

On the 7.3 you can get an International water pump from a t444E I think it is and it has a coolant filter built in.

one more thing im adding to my list is an auxiliary fuel tank/toolbox combo. cant decide on 40 or 60 gallon capacity. leaning towards the 60 gallon.

as it stands right now, all i will have done is the head studs/gaskets, HPOP, and replace #7 injector(and anything else found).

i will be driving out to texas and back a couple times this year. and at least one trip will be towing a 24-28ft enclosed trailer
