Default 1995 F150 Loss of Power

We have a 1995 F-150 with a 302 engine. Runs great in town, has plenty of power. When we take it out on the highway it runs fine for about 60 miles then the "check engine" light comes on and we lose power. If I give it full throttle it surges ahead like it is in passing gear. We have replaced the throttle sensor. Engine does not use any oil. If we let it set for 15 or 20 minutes it runs fine for about another 40 or 50 miles and starts the same problem. It is definitely running out of fuel.

You need to read the codes if the CEL is coming on.

Codes do not tell you what to replace, they tell you what circuit is faulty. You still have to do manual mechanical, voltage, and resistance checks.

Have you cleared the codes and seen if they come back? What is the exact code or codes?

If I remember right, the code was 167, the voltage was good (not high or low), the throttle sensor was replaced and did not make any difference. We use this to drive around town and it is fine. The only time it gives us any trouble is when we take it out on the highway. Both pumps check out well, front and rear. We're still searching. Thanks for your reply.

Are you sure your cat isn't clogged and overheating?

Have you cleared the code and seen if it comes back?
