OK. I bought a new MAF and replaced it. Thats one check off the list.
Next I did watch a video about changing your rear diff. fluid. I was not sure if it is the same process. About the leaky trans. I noticed after yesterday that since I was able to get it started It leaked approximately 4-6 drops. Accumulating a small puddle. i was not sure if the gauge was the issue or it was the sending unit. I'm planning a trip to my local junkyard and i will just add a cluster to my list. If you need any pictures or more information let me know. Thanks again for all the help!

I agree. I am very leary of 'The chip'. The previous owner said that there was a performance chip installed. i felt that was kinda *bonus* but wasn't really sure what it was specifically. Is there a way i can find out the brand or name so I could look up what it all has to offer?

well listening to webmaster, i looked underneath my dash and found a rectangular box. Ill take a picture of it but not sure what it is. bunch of wires going into it. My truck also has a aftermarket security system installed by bestbuy. not sure if that box is for that. Ill check the pcm and see if i see any brand name. I know on the box underneath the dash it says bw280 if that means anything.

OK well i took a peak underneath my dash again to try to figure out what that box was. here is the picture:

Click the image to open in full size.

It happens to be my security system installed before I bought it. It is BW2800 or Black Widow 2800. Aftermarket security system.

I don't need to know about that. The main thing I would like to know is:

1. Where can I find the so called *performance chip* that was installed before I bought it?
-I believe I found where it is. i looked under the hood on the drivers side underneath where I add clutch fluid. Located on the firewall. There is a thick cable of wires running into a red box. All I see are serial numbers. Not sure if I am able to get a better look.

2. I noticed my tranny was leaking fluid. After I got my truck started i noticed about 4-6 drops form a puddle on the ground. It is noticeable. Before I parked the truck(because of starting issues), the clutch was slipping.(woulod be in 3rd gear, give it gas and rpms would shoot up but no acceleration). The leak looks to be coming from the front end of the tranny. Was wondering if this could cause the slippage I am having. From the paperwork I have, a new clutch was installed by ford about 20k miles ago.

Thanks for all the help so far.

the pcm should be located on the drivers side under the hood in the firewall, near the brake booster. you'll have to in bolt the harness, then unbolt the plastic cover around the pcm then it should slide right out. on the opposite side of the pcm from the plug there should be an opening, and thats where the "chip" plugs into...

thanks aswaff. I know exactly what ur talking about. Mainly the location. That is basicly what I sall on my truck, just looks newer because mine was black but then it looked like it pluged into something red. Ill check it out now and get back to what I find. Thanks again.

OK. Found the bugger and got that black cap off. Next was the whole plug in thing. I got down to this:

I then came back and read your post again. So your saying the chip is behind that? The pins there?

the plastic cover that is around the pcm plug needs to be removed, you can see in my pic a rusty bolt, there should be one on top and one on the bottom, remove those then you should be able to slide the pcm out. once out and the pcm is in your hand, you'll see the chip on the back (opposite) side from the main plug.

p.s. please upload your pics to our gallery
