Post Trailer wiring distress

Here goes.

I have a 1989 F250 XLT Lariat, and I just bought a little trailer to pull behind it. The trailer is from 1961. I, for some reason, can not get my stop/turn signals to work. My running lights work just fine. But now, ever since I rewired the trailer, the cables, and both ends of the 7 blade plugs, my trucks battery is dying. If I turn off the truck, and try to turn it back on immediately, it doesn't work. However, if I wait a little bit, it starts just fine. I think there might be a short somewhere in the wiring, but I am looking for a second opinion. Any thoughts?

without being there the first thing I would check would be the ground
some things work with just the ball touching the coupler
but you got to get the ground wire right
a straight connection

if that don't work you need to get out the Multimeter
