Weapons cache, maps found after man’s arrest
Police find maps of a military facility in the man’s New Jersey motel room
Lloyd R. Woodson faces a host of weapons charges after being arrested in New Jersey.
BRANCHBURG, N.J. - Authorities in central New Jersey seized a cache of weapons and ammunition including rifles, a grenade launcher and a night vision scope from the motel room of a Virginia man.
Somerset County Prosecutor Wayne Forrest said Lloyd R. Woodson, a 43-year-old from Reston, Va., also had maps of a U.S. military facility and a town in another state.
The FBI said Woodson had no known terrorism links.
He was arrested in Branchburg early Monday by officers responding to a report of a suspicious person in a convenience store at around 4 a.m., reported NBC's Washington, D.C., station, WRC-TV.
Police chased Woodson on foot to a trailer park and subdued him with pepper spray, WRC reported.
Forrest said Woodson was wearing a bulletproof vest and carrying a semiautomatic Bushmaster rifle under his jacket when he was arrested. The weapons and maps were found in a later search of his motel room.
Woodson was being held at the Somerset County Jail on charges including unlawful possession of weapons, defaced firearms, armor penetrating bullets and possession of large capacity ammunition magazines.
The prosecutor's office did not know whether Woodson had a lawyer. He is currently being held without bond.
The Associated Press and NBC station WRC TV 4 contributed to this report.
