I have the 5.4 Triton and after learning how to accelerate the truck, I get about 13 town and close to 16 hwy. When I first bought the truck I was only getting 10-11 in town.

I'm getting about 14 city but that is a lot of lights and they are timed long. I can get around 20 on the hwy driving speed limit or just 5 over and light throttle work.

Try checking for codes anyway, there can be stored codes even without the cel being on.
Is your truck obd1 or 2?
If it is one you can check it with just a paper clip, if it is 2 you need a reader.
http://fordfuelinjection.com/?p=13 Thats for odb1
Other than that, just replace old worn out parts. Simple things like brake drag or wheel bearings sticking can kill mileage.
Or buy a 4.9, I get consistent 15 city 20 highway

What year is it? If it's anything older than 96 it's obd1 no doubt, obd2 compatible throughout certain years with an adapter of some sort. Obd1 is easier anyway.
Better mileage.. lighter right foot and like I said, test and replace old parts.
Make sure your airfilter is always clean and look at getting the intake from a 300 or 460.
