I followed another guy's 300 build in his 1981 Bronco(abandonedbronco on FSB) and he used the Offy intake and a Holley 390cfm carb, IIRC he had to make a special bracket to get the throttle to work right.
As it stands now, dad won't let me get anything along those lines^ H, beside's I love those little one barrel carbs, you should've seen the one I had on the 86 I traded for this bronco, it had an Industrial 300(I kicked myself in the ass for getting rid of it) I took the carb off and rebuilt it and before I put it back together I had it tumble polished, so there is was a bright ass carburetor on that 300, I used to get all kinds of looks when I'd pop the hood, I may just have the samething done on this one..

To a towering size with a lovely hue.
Its branches were strong and interwoven
And for Christ's cross its timbers were chosen
Being distressed at the use of the wood
Christ made a promise which still holds good:

To be large enough for a tree, and so
Slender and twisted it shall always be
With cross-shaped blossoms for all to see.
The petals shall have bloodstains marked brown
And in the blossom's center a thorny crown.
All who see it will think of Me,

Protected and cherished this tree shall be

That stuff comes at a hefftttyyy price. Headers alone are 3-500.
If you really wanna see prices though, go to clifford. http://www.cliffordperformance.net/index.html
I have heard that since the old man died, their stuff isn't as good as it used to be and is over priced.
Anywho, mpg. Just filled up on my way back to school.
Uncorrected : 193 /13 gallons = 14.84 mpg
Corrected: 219 /13 gallons = 16.84 mpg
I am not nice to my truck, I don't take it easy light to light etc, so I have no doubt your old 88 got 18 mpg, but with a carb'd motor I just don't know.
Only one way to find out, eh?
Oh and for tire corrections I used this site.
http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCal...?action=submit
You will see that the speedometer difference is 7.26%
And tire size difference is 6.79%

Thanks for the help Hawaiian, I can't get a header or 4bbl intake(dad almost literally crapped himself when I mentioned it) so I think this is how it is going to be:
Things to be done to the 300 once I buy one: Swapping the single piece "Log" style exhaust manifold(that restrict's exhaust) in favor of the 2 piece EFI's which flow better, Carburetor rebuild, de-greasing the engine, replacing all gaskets before putting it in the bronco, paint(still undecided on the color, I'm leaning towards Dark Blue or Red), Tune-up(no sixlitre until I figure out how well the engine runs). I'll think of something else to do and add it to the list.

These are in no particular order:
The plans are to buy a 300 clean it up and go over the engine and install all new gaskets(IE: Head gasket, Valve Cover Gasket, oil pan gasket), pull the one piece exhaust manifold and swap on the 2 piece EFI's(for better exhaust flow), probably do a carburetor rebuild(eazy peazy lemon squeezy), tune-up, oil and filter change, paint the engine..
Then I'm going to get 4x4 300 engine mounts, a 300 flexplate(for my c6), warranty my starter so I can get another good one, pull the 351w out and clean it up, while it is still in the Bronco I'm going to drain the oil, break the oil pan bolts loose, pull it, take off the pan, clean the pan off and out and paint it, scrape the old gasket off, put on a new one piece gasket(this'll be the last gasket it needs), reinstall the pan, then degrease the engine and paint it, I'm still undecided if I'm going to sell it or keep it I'm leaning towards keeping it(be cause it is such a good running engine).
I'll probably be asked "Why do you wanna pull the 351w and swap in a 300?" well my answer is, I'm looking for better gas mileage and I've got a running bet going that I could make the Bronco hit 20 MPG's even being a 4x4. I may even go for the Sixlitre Tune-up as they can be done on the 300(just don't know if I wanna pony up for the expensive $h!+ that the tune-up calls for.

NICE EDGAR ALLAN PHILOSOPHY. THE 300 IS A GOOD CHOICE. IT HAS 7 MAIN BEARINGS, HIGH TORQUE AND A REP FOR RELIABILITY. 6 MONS AGO I ALMOST BOUGHT A APPROX. 1985 300 CU. IN F-150 WITH A STICK AND O/D FOR $1700. i WISH I HAD BOUGHT IT, TIMING WAS BAD -LIFE, NOT IGNITION. I PURCHASED A RANGER INSTEAD. I IMAGINE THAT I COULD HAVE GOTTEN 20 MPG OUT OF THAT 2 WHEEL DRIVE F-150. LIGHTER THAN A BRONCO WITH MORE GLASS AND 4X4. YOU CAN ALWAYS TRADE OFF ACCELERATION FOR MPG'S BY INSTALLING A LOWER REAR END IN A 2 WHEEL DRIVE.BUT, AND IM UNSURE HERE, YOU MAY NEED TO CHANGE YOUR FRONT DRIVE TO COMPENSATE ? GOOD LUCK , VERY INTERESTING, I WILL HOPE TO CONTINUE READING ABOUT IT
I PUT A AMC V-8 INTO A OVERHEAD CAM 6 JEEP WAGONEER ONCE. THAT WAS PRETTY SIMPLE. MANY YRS AGO.

if you have a 4X4 and you change the rear gear, if you plan on useing the front the front gear has to match the rear

The poem in my signature was one of the last Edgar Allen Poe did, he wrote it 1849 during the California gold rush, James Caan recited it in one of my favorite John Wayne movies El Dorado, and the opening song of the movie was a version of the poem.

Well, dad decided(as usual) to go ahead and pay $390 to have the pan gasket replaced at a shop in town, I'm going out tomorrow to check out a 1988 F150 S/C with a 5.0 and Auto tranny, if I buy it pics are to come in a new thread, this one is closed(for the time being)
